Statuette of Amun-Re

Egyptian, Late Period
712 - 332 BCE
LFRD 3138

The Egyptian god Amun (meaning ‘the hidden one’) became the most powerful god in the Egyptian pantheon when he was associated with the sun god Re to become ‘Amun-Re’ in the New Kingdom. His worship was supressed under the pharaoh Akhenaten, the central figure in Freud’s late, troubling work, Moses and Monotheism.
