Like the balsamarium, the fact that the Etruscan warrior figure resides on Freud’s desk shows us that it was one of his favourite pieces. It also shares a characteristic feature with Freud’s most cherished piece in his collection, the bronze Athena that took pride of place on the centre of his desk. Like her, the warrior has lost his spear.
